Youth Safeguarding & Screening

Their Safety Comes First.

At The Next Chapter Foundation, the safety, dignity, privacy, and well-being of every young person we serve are among our highest priorities.

We are committed to creating environments where youth can learn, grow, build meaningful relationships, and develop into confident leaders while being protected by clear standards of conduct, appropriate supervision, and responsible screening practices.

Our Commitment

All mentors, volunteers, staff members, program leaders, and other adults who may work directly with youth are expected to follow The Next Chapter Foundation’s youth-protection standards.

Our safeguarding framework includes:

* Background screening for applicable staff, mentors, volunteers, and program personnel

* Identity and reference verification when appropriate

* Required youth-safety and professional-boundary training

* Clear mentor and participant codes of conduct

* Appropriate adult-to-youth supervision standards

* Guidelines governing one-on-one interactions

* Safe transportation and event procedures

* Digital communication and social-media boundaries

* Parent and caregiver consent procedures

* Confidentiality and privacy protections

* Procedures for reporting safety concerns or inappropriate conduct

* Immediate escalation of situations involving suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or danger

* Ongoing review of mentors and volunteers participating in youth-facing programs

Safe Mentoring Relationships

Mentorship should create trust without compromising appropriate boundaries.

Adults working with participants are expected to maintain professional relationships with youth at all times. Private, secretive, exploitative, romantic, sexual, threatening, degrading, or otherwise inappropriate relationships or communications with participants are strictly prohibited.

Whenever possible, program activities are designed to promote transparency, appropriate supervision, and parent or caregiver awareness.

Parents & Caregivers Are Partners

Parents and caregivers are an important part of our safeguarding model.

Families receive information about program expectations, communication practices, activities, permissions, and available ways to raise concerns.

We encourage parents and caregivers to remain engaged throughout their child’s participation.

Speak Up

Every participant should feel safe speaking up.

Youth, parents, caregivers, volunteers, mentors, and staff are encouraged to report behavior that makes them uncomfortable or raises a concern about someone’s safety.

Reports involving suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or immediate danger will be handled in accordance with applicable reporting requirements and organizational procedures.

Our Standard

The Next Chapter Foundation believes meaningful mentorship requires more than good intentions.

It requires:

Trust. Accountability. Transparency. Boundaries. Protection.

We are committed to building an organization where young people can grow knowing that the adults surrounding them have been selected, trained, supervised, and held to clear standards.

Because developing the next generation also means protecting them along the way.

This fits the foundation’s broader plan to have screening, reporting procedures, mentor boundaries, transportation rules, media permissions, and youth-protection safeguards established before serving minors.

Building young leaders. Strengthening families. Community Impact.

Sustained mentorship, leadership development, financial education, academic and career preparation, and family support beyond the initial camp or summit.
